I had the incredible opportunity to hold my solo exhibition, Equilibrium, in Johannesburg, South Africa. This exhibition was made possible through a beautiful chain of connections. My graphic design mentor and colleague from Adams & Adams introduced me to a friend who co-owned a gallery with her partner (Liane Huesmann and Camdon Juby). They expressed a genuine interest in my art and extended the invitation to showcase my work in their beautiful space. Without hesitation, I accepted, and Equilibrium came to life.
The exhibition was titled Equilibrium as it represented a balance—a collection of works I had created over the previous three years. Leading up to 2018, I had not held a solo exhibition in quite some time, so this show became a way to combine the various themes, techniques, and styles I had explored during those years. My artistic approach is quite versatile, in style and subject matter, and Equilibrium reflected that diversity rather than focusing on a single narrative. The work filled the entire gallery over two floors.
The exhibition was well-received, drawing a large crowd, including many familiar faces and people I had never met before, which was humbling and inspiring in many ways. I was also honoured to have my work featured on SABC Morning Live (click here to watch) and covered by several media outlets, further amplifying the exhibition's reach.
A special moment from the opening night was my friend’s father, Andy Rice, graciously giving a heartfelt speech to open the show. His words added a meaningful layer to the experience, and I’m forever grateful for his presence and support. Gunther van der Reis, a titan in South Africa's art world also came to support me with his family and give me a lot of words of encouragement. My sister's food and drink planning was also a highlight of the openings. She always shows up for me in many ways.
I extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who attended the exhibition, shared their feedback, and supported me throughout the journey. Equilibrium was not just a showcase of art but a celebration of growth, connection, and the power of creative expression. Thank you for being part of that experience.
